A Review of 2005
[/b]
The BAHS Alumni Association had an active year.  The biggest and most impressive change came with our new web presence at www.baaa.org.  Lorri Crossno Nevil (’79) has done a fantastic job in creating a useful and good-looking site for us.  She came up with the idea of “ScholarShop Mall” http://www.baaa.org/shopping/ .  When you shop online, if you use our site to begin your search, the Alumni Association will receive a percentage of the sale as a rebate back to us.  We have a guest book for comments.  Lorri has added “forums” at http://baaa.org/boards/index.php  On the boards you will find sub-groups for each class and the latest reunion news.  Alumni members can search the alumni database for classmates.  We have added PayPal and can now accept your membership dues, donations, etc. with it.  Look for t-shirts and coffee mugs on sale soon.

(Webmaster note:  You can now purchase your mugs / t-shirts here: http://www.baaa.org/shop/ )

The Association awarded $13,000 in scholarships in May, 2005 to graduating Seniors.

We assisted in the reunions held during the year.  We will provide the Reunion Chair with a list of the members of their class.

The Alumni Board approved the creation of a 3rd Alumni Directory to be published in 2006.  Hopefully you have been contacted by Harris Direct and have updated your information.  Be assured that your data is strictly guarded and will never be sold.  The Alumni Association will make $1.50 per book sold and we will benefit from the updated database of alumni which Harris will provide us.
Scarlette Holland Carey ('61) coordinated our participation in the annual Bryan Adams parade.

We almost had an All Class Picnic.  We had scheduled a picnic at Flag Pole Hill for all classes.  We had almost 300 people signed up to attend.  But then the weathermen scared us with the impending rain from Hurricane Rita.  Since there isn’t really any shelter for 300 people at Flag Pole Hill and because of the expense of the food and DJ’s planned, we postponed the picnic.  We’ll be discussing a new date and plans at the March 25 meeting.

(Webmaster Note: Meeting was held - Picnic was rescheduled for May 20, 2006 @ Bryan Adams HS - you can rsvp here:  http://www.baaa.org/RSVP )

Message from Alumni President Bill Campbell
I assumed the role of President of the Bryan Adams High School Alumni Association 4 years ago.  I came to the meeting because of the newsletter I received saying that the Association either needed new blood or needed to fold.  The current Board members had nurtured the Association along for nearly 10 years.  10 years is a long time for a small group to do all of the work of a volunteer organization.  We were lucky to have some excellent people like Charlotte Wilson (’62), Bill Mott (’70), and Doug Hale (’70) who are no longer on the Board but still help when needed.  Jean Schell (’62) was a founding member and is still on the Board, serving in 2 roles.

This year is our bi-annual election.  All of the current Board members have agreed to serve again except for our newsletter Secretary Jeanenne Grammer Oglesby ('62).  She has done a great job and we’re sorry to lose her.  I know she cares deeply about Bryan Adams and the Alumni Association and will help us if we ask.  But it is again time for new blood.   I feel it is healthy to have new ideas and input.  I am sure there are things the Alumni Association doesn’t do that you’d like to see.  At the meeting 4 years ago, we were challenged by Wally (’63) and John Hooser(’65) to become a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization and we achieved that.  This allowed us to receive tax deductible donations and grants resulting in the awarding of $24,500 in scholarships the last 3 years.  This is over $20,000 more than the Association would have awarded if they hadn’t been pushed to achieve higher levels.

Now it’s your time to push the Alumni Association to new heights.  We need a new Board member.  We need someone to solicit donations and grants so that we can help even more Seniors.  We need help with social events.  We’re planning a picnic at the March 25 meeting.  Come help us plan.  Help us think of other ways to get the alumni together for fun.  We need help thinking of new activities and options that we haven’t even thought of.  Please come to our annual meeting March 25 at 10:00 at the Bryan Adams auditorium.  Walk around the school afterwards and see the changes.  I’m very impressed with the landscaping in front of the school.  Be a part of something special – the Bryan Adams High School Alumni Association.

(Notes: We welcome Brent Ercanbrack, Class of 1998 as our newsletter secretary, again picnic is rescheduled for May 20, 2006 @ Bryan Adams High School)

Homing Parade A Success
by Scarlette Holland Carey (61)
The 2005 Bryan Adams Homecoming Parade was held on a day full of sunshine and lots of BA spirit.  Of course, green and white were the colors of the day.  Jacob Chavez, Jessica Chavez, Meagan Martinez, Taylor Martinez,  Alyssa Martinez , Candee Carey Martinez  and Mistee Carey Chavez created the “Spirit of BA” with their football, cheerleader and Belle’s attire.

Thank you, Chairperson, Scarlette Holland Carey (61), for all your dedication and hard work each year.  Go Cougars!
